We want to plan a trip to the area around Park City, Utah for the fall foliage, but are unsure of the time frame, nor the best areas. Have selected some areas to include the Mirror Lake Highway, Alpine Scenic Highway, Hobble Creek trail out of Provo, and the Nebo loop. Would appreciate any info as to usual time frames, best places around Salt Lake City and south. Thanks for any info you can share!

The general time is end of September through end of October, but obviously it varies with weather and elevation. Park City isn't the prettiest spot, but you've got some nicer places already on your list. We had a very well spring followed by the hottest June on record so it is hard to guess for this year.

Just for general information, here is a good list of color drives from the tourist folks:

We usually vacation in Montana and Wyoming. However, in 2013, the smoke from wildfires was so thick that the Tetons were completely hidden frow view. We left and headed for Utah.

We were later in the year then usual, and DW was bemoaning missing our fall color trip to Michigan's upper peninsula. What a surprise we got. In early October, the leaves were changing all through the southern part of the state. The colors had less variety than what we see in the north woods, but the intense yellow-golds were spectacular.

Almost time for making campground reservations concerning our Utah fall foliage trip, but have been unable to get any status regarding conditions around Park City or the Provo area. Can someone living in the area provide some info? The only thing I've heard is that it has been a hot-dry summer, and that could have a negative effect on the fall foliage. Thanks for any information you can provide!

We generally stay a long weekend up at the Park City RV park and then ride the Harley over to Mirror Lake and surrounding areas around the last weekend of September or first weekend of October time frame.  Colors have been beautiful that time of year the past couple of years.  Hope we can do a repeat this year again.

Mike.

Utah summer 2015 has been wetter than normal.  The fall colors in the northern high country are starting NOW.  The next two or three weeks will be good for the reds.  The channel 5 news has been showing the fall colors for the last few days.
