My Xoom finally arrived and I am very impressed with it.  It is much faster than my iPad and acts more like a real computer.

It has a built in Wifi Hotspot so, the Verizon Air Card can be eliminated.

It does map routing so, the Garmin GPS can be eliminated.

Best of all, the iPad can be eliminated.  ;D

Here's another "stupid" question...Since it is WIFI capable, do you still have to pay for a wireless connection?  I understand that when you're somewhere that has WIFI it will pick up the signal, but when you're at home, don't you still have to pay for the network card of some sort?

I have a data plan because I use the Xoom to tether other devices.  I don't know if a monthly plan is required.

I have an old Droid phone that has been disconnected from the Verizon data plan and it still works fine on Wifi.

When you are on WIFI you are on the local network, not on Verizons mobile net. Just like being wireless on your network at home, except at a Campground or someplace else with WIFI.

The answer if that doesn't make sense to you is no, you don't pay Verizon for data minutes.
