I would try to locate the genny over the axles or there abouts and quit worrying about it, unless the trailer is already overloaded.
Drain most of the gas from the tank and secure it so it doesn't slide around and you should be fine. At only 80 lbs you probably wont even notice a difference.
I carry my 100 lb genny on a front mounted hitch carrier and it improves the handling.
