I've moved my new camper into a seasonal site and plan on leaving it there for the next 2-3 years.
I might take it out once or twice a year on a short 200-300 mile trip, but it will stay put the rest of the time (It's our lake lodge).
Thinking of saving some money longer term by replacing my...
MarkB - depending on how old the explorer is, you might be able to use the following to see your sticker equipment.
http://fordlabels.webview.biz/webviewhybrid/WindowSticker.aspx?vin=entervin
replace entervin with your VIN #.
cajunrzr - have you stopped at the scales to determine your weights?
I am looking at the 32qb.
It would be good to know some real world numbers if you got them.
So Gary, are you advising against a 5th wheel with a dry king pin around 1500lbs or do you think I will be OK since the rear weight will not exceed 6100 lbs?
Joezeppy - that is what i am trying to understand. What is the Pin weight I should not exceed.
Of course the dealers are saying I can town anything, but I want to error on the side of caution.
Here are the specs of the trailers.
Trailer A
Dry Hitch Weight 1,860 lb. (844 kg )

I?ve read the forums over and over again and thought I knew how to figure out what I can tow. I didn't want to bother the community....
I am looking to move up to a 5th wheel, but want to know what would be a safe range for my truck.
I used the online calculators and if I understand my numbers...
larbailey - I own a 2010 F250 6.4L Diesel. Pulls like a beast. The 6.7L Scorpion is supposed to be even better.
I tow a traditional camper right now (loaded weight 8200 lbs), but as soon as the wife gives me the OK, we are moving up to a 5th wheel.
When I get the 5th wheel, it will not be a toy...
Two more quick questions on the subject of the 5 gallon cans.
#1. Is there really a difference between the red gasoline and yellow diesel cans?
Can I put diesel in the red cans?
#2. If I have a red can that is empty and dry but used in the past with gas, can they be used for diesel or will...
Thanks for all the feedback.
Please know, I have 2 girls, so I will be stopping every couple hours anyways.
My main point was not stopping to find diesel. It is much easier to stop at a rest stops than it is to fight traffic at an on ramp and find a gas stop with a free diesel aisle to fill up...
Wanted to 2011 with the new Scorpion 6.7 diesel because it is a screamer.
I just bought the 2010 F250 with the 6.4 and love it.
Others will chime in for sure, but my 2 cents if it were me -> the 2011 F250, even with the new engine is too small of frame.
I am sure it will pull it, but if you...
I've search the forum looking for any discussion on in bed auxiliary tanks.
I have an 08 F250 4x4 SC SB with a 30 gallon tank.
I am planning a trip from OH to GA in the spring.
I dread stopping every 250 miles just to fill up again.
I plan to take (2) 5 Gallon Yellow gas cans with me filled up...
