    Buying a generator

I bought Honda?s three years ago because I knew I was going to put a lot of hours on them and based on advertised spec?s at that time, the cheaper to purchase generators would cost me a lot more in fuel to operate. Now over 1700 hours on these units and no issues.

Best option for family of 6

Depending on your budget and time constraints, having one custom built might be the best way. With husband being a carpenter, have one completed to the point you feel comfortable. I'm taking delivery on my 4 custom unit later this month. The prices are comparable (discounted) to regular...

    Purchased Used Trailer- Its Complicated

If you have friends with the time, have a strip party. A friend of mine was in the same situation only about 20 years ago. Fortunately, I had hangar space available, another friend had a large grill, and several friends volunteered their time and talenst. In one weekend, we stripped the TT down...

Dumb question #3 tire air valve extensions

Look up "CAT EYES"  tire pressure system or "CROSS FIRE" tire pressure system. When installed, you are able to easily adjust your tire pressure with exact pressure between the duals. I also installed a TPMS on each one so I can monitor my pressures while operating the vehicle. If one tire...

    Down the oil filler.

Mine is a CAT C-11. The oil fill has a 90 degree bend and would not go into the pan. Not sure about yours. To fish it out, I would use a mechanic's 'GRABER' or perhaps a plumber's snake could fish it out. Also .040 stainless wire with a hook bend at one end might snag it. Good luck at let us...

    Prepping for Disaster

Your husband and I crossed paths many times. He is the front line responder, I'm in the back as part of logistical support. I am always amazed at the tireless and selfless commitment the people like your husband do. So a big THANK YOU to you both!

    Torque Multiplier for lug nuts

I own a Milwaukee 18v 3/4 drive impact wrench. The rated breaking torque is 1250 lbs. I use it regularly on my freightliner 22.5 rims and have no problem removing the lugs. The tightening torque is 750 ft lbs and I use a 475 ft lbs torque stick...again no problems. I rotate my own tires and one...

Do I need a torque wrench?

Not at all Lou. My wheels are torque rated at 450-500 ft lbs. You can get torque sticks for whatever rating you are requiring. For my Honda CRV, I use a Ryobi impact (had it long before the Milwaukee came out) and keep it in the car for service on the road. Road Service is fine if you have cell...

Do I need a torque wrench?

I carry a Milwaukee M18  3/4" impact wrench (rated at 750 ft lbs) and use a torque stick rated at 475 ft lbs. This has made wheel service a quick and easy event.

Trans Overheating, lack of Cooling, or ??

What is the age of the fluid and total miles on the transmission? When the transmission temp raised to 230f, what was the water/coolant temp? Generally, normal transmission temp is 176f. Consider 160-180f as reasonable. At 257f seals break down. The higher temps above 176f will dramatically...

Onan 4k Altitude Adjustment Screw Setting.

Ditto fuel pump, but also check the fuel lines and fittings. Assuming you have sufficient fuel in the tank well above the pick-up line, sometimes the fuel fittings can need tightening (happen to me) or the lines themselves are cracked or aged to the point that they allow air to be sucked in...

    Dead Cat, Caterpillar that is

Thanks to the OP and all replies. After reading the posts, I googled "how to grease U-joints" and came up with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH-fvddVt-g  A good to know topic to check behind the mechanic or a refresher for the dyi. Happy RV'ng
