Advantages of a 5th wheel over a TT

We went round and round on the "which RV question"... I mean full circles several times...over several years. Ultimately, two factors drove our decision to buy a TT.  Most important was that having a truck bed with a canopy top provides lots of extra storage space - both when the TT is in tow...

    traveling during a wind event

Well, so much for the truck that man-handles the TT.  They appeared to be driving pretty slow when this happened.  How about those towing 5th wheels... pretty much the same or can they handle considerably more crosswind?  Seeing a few of these videos has me worrying about travel with our new TT  :o

    traveling during a wind event

So following up on this conversation a bit, what is the general rule of thumb regarding towing a TT with winds?  Just pull over at the next convenient location and wait it out? What do folks do when in route with long stretches between stops, and the winds kick up?  Much of our travels will be...

    Coach-net

We also received a free 1 year membership to Coach-Net as part of our recent used TT purchase.  The technician at the RV sales outfit, who did our delivery walkthrough, raved about them.  He highly recommended that we consider maintaining the membership and that he'd used his several times over...

Legality of Using LT vs. ST Tires

Don't know.  They are the upgrade aluminum rims, but I cannot find any label or stamped info on them as to maximum psi.  I'll need to contact StarCraft and see what they say.  So when you say "popular ST brands" which one of those would you choose?

Legality of Using LT vs. ST Tires

My TT placard shows a GAWR, for both front and rear axles, of 3500 lbs.  The ST205/75R15 Power King tires show a max load rating of 1820 lbs.  So I have a whopping 140 lbs. of excess capacity.  PK does make a 'D' rated tire in this same size tire and rim (5.5 inch) that is rated at 2150 lbs...

Legality of Using LT vs. ST Tires

Does anyone know if there are legal issues with using other than ST series tires on an RV whose tire placard/sticker lists those as the approved tire?  Legal in the sense that if the RV was involved in a serious accident that insurance companies could use this factor in claims and/or receiving a...

Need honest opinion on TT choices...New? Used?

We just purchased a 2015 StarCraft 245DS which was purchased from the Bozeman, MT dealer.  It is in like new condition.  If the previous owner used it, they did so very little.  The same model/package options for 2017 are in the $26-28k.  We saved over $10k on our deal. During our years of...

    Insulation Claims

I looked into this question as well.  I only found one video of an actual hot/cold test conducted by a mfg. (don't recall which one) where interior temperature was monitored.  RIVA does not have a standard test for these claims and based on comments from others on another RV forum thread, it...

    Dodge 5.9L vs. 6.7L

I was trying to avoid the Cummins forum as way too much of the discussion is centered on dropping the rear end and installing programmers that can make the 26" tires spin off their rims.  I was hoping to hear more from those who just use these for RV towing and have had both the older and newer...

    Dodge 5.9L vs. 6.7L

Our truck is stock except for the airbags and Prodigy II.  It seemed to tow fine, but it definitely knew the TT was there.  I used the tow/haul mode.  We live in SW Montana and will be doing travels throughout the rocky mountains.  That's why I was thinking the jump in HP and torque (~25%)...

    Dodge 5.9L vs. 6.7L

I would like to hear from forum members who have owned and towed with the older 5.9L and the newer 6.7L Cummins.  We currently own a 2006, 2500 that has the 5.9L/48RFE.  Both horsepower and torque really began to increase starting in the 2012 model years.  We've been toying with getting a newer...

    Mfg's & Models to Avoid?

Hi donn, Which on my list did fell out of favor with you?  I do try and pay attention to how well things "stay square" so to speak, when looking at used inventory.  It is really hard to see the hidden ills and wear and tear, but that is exactly why I'm trying to eliminate the mfg's and models...

    Mfg's & Models to Avoid?

Hello all, We've been looking for the right 5th wheel for well over 5 years now and fully expect to buy something in 2013 or 2014.  This industry sure seems to see considerable change, so much so, it really is hard to boil things down.  After listening to dozens of sales folks explain the merits...
