We had a similar odd leak, found that water would puddle at the base of the slide, seep through seal.

My cousin's kids used to go motor cross racing.  Her 5th wheel carried 4 motorcycles, as well as tires, tools, etc. had drop-down bunks as well as couches.

Nice thing is that we are not too proud to tell others how we messed up, so others won't make the same mistake.

I have extenders on the I side dually tires, they attach to the outside wheel covers.  Again, I use a professional gauge with flexible connector.  Only problem I ever had was catching a rock just wrong, jammed it right Into the extension, letting the inside tire go down.

First time I took our Winnebago, we were parking next to a creek with a sharp drop off.  Lost sight of wife in the dark, dang near backed off the edge of the creek.  The screaming finally alerted me to the issue...and everyone else in the park. 

Use the sealing tape along the main seam where the roof ties into the metal for the drop down begins.  Then use roofing paint to complete the seal.  The sealant along that seam will look solid but allow wAter to run under it.
