Towing a 5th wheel for the first time

I'm a bit late to the party but wanted to add that RV'ers are the nicest and most helpful people on the planet.  I am woman traveling alone.  My truck and trailer exceed 52 feet when hitched.  I have no spotter to hitch up or back up.  I use my back up camera on the truck to back the receiver...

Towing a 5th wheel for the first time

Well, since I travel alone I don't have a spotter and I'm  thinking my little terrier Wiley Coyote would be no help lol.  I am not the best at backing in but I am persistent.  I take my time, get out frequently to see where I am and invariably some friendly RV'er will wonder over to assist.  If...

    31' or 36' travel trailer

Me too... I tow a 30 ft TT just shy of 10k with a 2500 gmc denali cc 6.6 turbo diesel 4x4  and it's like its not there.  Of course, I am towing about 6k less than what I am rated to tow and I think that makes all the difference.  I only experience sway in heavy winds but I don't have sway bars...

    Yuma Arizona mid February

Any recommendations for RV parks?  We are going over to Mexico but don't necessarily need to be close to the border.  Looking for a nice spot with good cell coverage and/or wifi and full hook ups :-) Thanks in advance! Kim

    New to single life

Sounds very familiar  :)  I have to be logged in east coast time workdays but I am dealing with client escalations all day so not a very remote situation. Working on company vpn as well as proprietary programs outside of vpn.  I do have a team under me that is very good at coverage when I want...

    Overnight in North Hollywood CA

UPDATE: Just wanted to let you all know that I ended up staying at Balboa RV Park and they were very accommodating.  I called ahead and explained that I just wanted a quick over-night and did not want to unhook the TT so I needed about 54' space.  They said no problem - they would put me in...

    New to single life

Welcome Horst - sorry to hear of your loss.  Although I am not a full timer I do travel alone frequently.  RV'ers are very friendly and helpful people.  I just make sure I am aware of my surroundings at all times especially when doing a quick overnight outside of campgrounds and I overcome my...

    Overnight in North Hollywood CA

Thank you everyone for all the information.  My neice tells me that there is a park a few blocks away that she sees RV parked along the main road all the time.  She thinks I should park there.  Not too sure about that, I like to have a plan  :)

    Introduce myself

Welcome Ron.  Where do you plan on travelling once renovations are complete?

    Overnight in North Hollywood CA

Any suggestions?  Want to stop for a night to visit my neice who lives in N. Hollywood and not finding many options for an overnight.  There is an RV park in Van Nuys called Balboa Park but all the reviews indicated super small sites that are difficult to get in to if over 24 ft.  My TT alone is...

    OMGOSH we're NEWBIES

That was a very entertaining post!  Especially since I have felt that very same thing many many times in my life!  Here is my advice:  Fear nothing.    Living in fear and the RV lifestyle don't mesh.  When in doubt, go slow! Enjoy your freedom!!

Newb in TX - Weight Distribution / Sway Control

I have a 30 ft Kodiak TT bought it from my brother who was towing with the same model truck I have:  GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali 6.6 Diesel.  He tells me- "eh, you don't need no stinking w/d hitch"  OK.... so first few times I towed this TT (loaded about 9500 lbs - way under my rating) the truck...

    Returning to RV freedom

Hello, I'm Kim and happy to remember this awesome forum now that I am embarking on part time RV explorations once again.  I am 54 yrs. old and once my kids got all grown up I sold all my property in the San Francisco area and moved to my vacation home in Truckee.  It took me two years to find a...
