Though the procedure you cite works.. That is a defective lock.  Pure and simple, that is a defective lock.

I"m thinking a different BRAND of lock that fits the same cut out (if such exists) might be in order.. Though the most common alternative is Tri-mark and I'm not all that happy with them either.

Fastec. Has a recall and not all key numbers are listed on the recall.
A call to fastec may get you new locks. This recall is NHTSA recall, so they are not messing around.

Thank you for posting the fix to this issue!!!  You just saved me - and you helped me prove to my husband that I still can find the answer to most of the mechanical issues I run into by running a Google search!  Very grateful!!
