But then she also owns the rights to the show. it is HER property.

It was, Majel Barrett Roddenberry died in 2008.  She left a $4 million trust fund to her dogs so they could continue living in her mansion along with their caregiver, who got her own $1 million and the right to continue living in the house.

Gene Roddenberry died in 1991 and left $100 million to their son, Gene Roddenberry, Jr.

Hollywood is strange.

I know lots of dogs that I prefer to some people  ;D ;D ;D ;D

To me, Forbidden Planet is the gold standard to space travel movies.. Robbie had quite a carrier after that movie.

On the DVR at home I record the last 10 original Star Trek, 10TNG shows aired, and occasionally watch the newer versions if nothing else is on. Oraville is an excellent show that I cant wait till the new season. Also set to record

In the coach I have a stand-alone PSW inverter controlled by a 7 day, 14 event timer that I program to turn on, power the sat receiver, record Star Trek every night, Oraville (when the new season starts), and of course Cheers :) so nothing is missed Anytime we drycamp I still have the shows being recorded. It also acts as a UPS so no chance of power bumps even when hooked up.

O..  I still have the original Paramount issue StarTrek DS9 black silk crew jacket complete with communicator pin. Never worn  :))

PICS, we need pics!  I love Orville as well, Seth does a great job as the slightly goofy Captain.  I still wait for BBA to start rerunning old Trek series.  That was dinner time viewing every night.

We've been in the San Francisco Bay area for a few weeks and the evening line up for one of the channels starts with the original Star Trek series.  It's followed by The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager.  Fun to see how things have changed over the years.  The old fight scenes with Shatner and the bad guys were a hoot.  Shatner could knock someone out even when he missed them.

"I wonder if the uproar over the cancellation of the original Star Trek was similar to the uproar that occurred (and spurred the creation of the movie) when FireFly was cancelled."

I was very disappointed when Firefly was cancelled as well.  I always thought the Firefly class spaceship was designed from a fifth wheel RV -it's pretty much a 5er with no wheels. LOL

well I'm awfully late to this thread...
I can't say with certainty that I've seen all the original series, but at least nearly so.  I've always thought it seemed low budget and cheesy, even as a kid watching it in reruns, but I liked it at the same time.  I enjoyed the next generation too.  Never did get into voyager all that much, and I just could not like deep space 9 for some reason.  I haven't really seen any of the newer stuff.

Funny thing to me is how people seem to be either more of a trecky or more into star wars.  I really enjoyed the SW series...in some ways I like it more than ST, but the whole thing about so much of them being old fashioned and futuristic at the same time sorta bothers me....the dirt floor living, old style clothes, etc...

My wife only just recently started streaming the new lost in space series.  I haven't seen everything she's watched, but I do think that what I have seen looks pretty good.... except it seems like a disaster around every turn...like those the world is ending because of a (meteor, tidal wave, magnetic poles shifting, etc..) movies which I never cared for.

What I really liked was The Martian.  That's one of the few fiction works I've read & loved it.  The movie left me a bit disappointed though, mainly because they left out so much key material, but I really like that genre better... the almost possible stuff.  I'd like to see more of that.

With a few rare exceptions, movies are NEVER as good as the book

True that; I can only think of one or two that are close. For me, the movie I watch in my head as I'm reading is sooo much better than whatever Hollywood does, however good the intentions might be...

Never got into Firefly. Star Trek (TOS) was cancelled twice. the Uproar the first time was so great that they restored it.

At the first Star Trek convention. reporters from the network that showed it came to do a story. THen left without identifying themselvs.. THey (rightly) Feared a lynch mob. the other networks covered it.

Not sure if Spitting Image ever crossed the seas to America but they did some funny take ups of Spock and a full episode dedicated to the Film Awards.

Since this forum has limits I can?t meet, where do I send the pix to resize and post? This is all on an iPhone and I cant do that here. Forgot how cool this jacket is.. ;D

I just use an image resizer to shrink then post it.  If you don't have one available, you can email it to me and I  will shrink and post it for you.

spitting image was very popular in the UK. They did a lot of political  and public figures. Some people asked for their puppets when the show ended.
