Torn Awning

This subject has prob been discussed before but I could not find - Does anyone know of a good way of fixing an awning that has torn right at the roll connection? Thanks

My awning started to tear near the roller.  I took braided fishing line (15 lb test fireline ) and hand stitched it.  Then covered the tear with sail repair tape .  That was 3 years ago and the repair is still holding.  I have seen similar repair tape at CW.
