KOFA/Quartzsite 2022 Get Together?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Larry, Pams post was pretty clear. I thought my response was pretty clear. I didn't read anything into it. I simply don't think the two belong together. You on the other hand said "how it seemed to me". Now I can read something into that. Kettle Pot Larry.

I think Larry got my meaning clear. I actually think the Kofa and Quartzsite rally posts should be initiated by their traditional hosts, but Max is excited about heading southwest and is a long term planner so she started months before these topics wouldn’t normally be brought up. No problem to me! The thread is actually mostly about Q, and I thought it a bit misleading that the title was KOFA, thinking folks interested in Q wouldn’t see it. That is the sum total of rationale behind my request.

This thread is still just informational on either location. Just like Quartzsite itself, both locations tend to be casual and participate if you like or not. Kev's whole point of view on KOFA has been that he is not "in charge". No one is. We get together, and if someone floats an idea that gets a good response, then it might happen. Or not.

Just looked at the post header, it says KOFA/Quartzite.

The Forum gathering is highly structured. Kevins is not.

But highly structured and mandatory ?
I've never seen "highly structured" at Q. "Mandatory" name tags for happy hour (and no dogs at the campfire during happy hour -- keeps them from getting at the food) is the closest thing I've seen to that. Granted that someone might say they'll do a walk at 10 AM for those who are interested, and someone else might say they're doing a Jeep trip at 9 AM the next day, but there's nothing "mandatory" about those.

Even at some "structured" individual events, such as the "horse race" in 2011, it's still not mandatory. Do as you wish. IMO Gary way overstates the "structure" at Q.

From someone that is pretty new to the idea of KOFA and Quartzite, I like this thread and appreciate all the long-time attenders chiming in with their opinons. If one or the other were truley structured, I would not be at that one. Looking forward to attending both in the future.

Yeah, I don’t do structured! I don’t mind the name tag thing because I have trouble remembering names. I love potluck dinners so that one never bothered me either. Others may disagree. I know I will organize a trip to the Desert Bar on the last day of the RV show, just because we like it. Either other folks are interested or they aren’t. We will go either way. As for KOFA, we will be there some time or other just because we like the area. Might be before we go to Q, might be after, might be both! Whether someone else is there or not doesn’t affect my planning. It is nice to sit around a fire with friends, but it is not essential to my happiness.

Nicely put. Hopefully, we will be joining you at the desert bar, enjoyed it twice on your recommendation, see no reason not too again.

We are not sure if winter plans are going to be east or west this year yet. We know we are going to be in Indiana until the 1st couple weeks of November watching our Grandson in his senior year as Drum Major in marching season at his contests. His high school band has won many state championships and we are cheering them on for this year. Two of our children were also in this same band. So many memories!

We also need to get some solar work done on our new to us Newmar. It has some solar on it now but is not set up for the extended boondocking we do or to take advantage of the lithium batteries we have. Mark is willing to do some of the work but needs some help with building out the system with exactly what we need to do what we want. Not sure where to go for the work yet.
Open to suggestions for that.

We've only been to the Q rally twice, but the amount of technical knowledge there should be more than sufficient if you are capable of the installation. There should be everything material wise for your install.

The good news was that I discovered major leaks in the roof of the Van and took it back the next day for a full refund.
Did you ever check to see what was causing the leak? Looks like a rather new van that shouldn't be leaking.

If I get back home in time from my first long trip in my new RV, I could go back out in my old RV and go to Quartzite this year. I figure that place is better suited for my old RV, out there in all that sand.

What are the dates for Quartzite? I assume January some time, as usual. And at what coordinate for this forum (I can convert any format, put I prefer decimal-- IOW, in degrees only).

The roof leak was from the A/C gasket.

Q would not make your RV any dirtier than a road trip might.
What do you think it would have taken to fix that leak? New gasket? Or just loose mounting? Do you know how the A/C unit was mounted?

Yeah, and I could get better timing to Q. on the way back. I decided my first long trip in my new RV will be to Florida. That will be after a few very short trips to get used to it and break it in a bit. And to figure out how things work. I will have a lot to learn. I have not yet even fully figured out my last couple of new electric cars. So many bells and whistles. Smartphones on wheels must be smarter than I am!

Perhaps I can time it right to be in Q. with the new RV on the way back home.

And like you say, it probably will be quite dirty after several thousand miles in one trip.

I agree with Tony that there will be lots of people to help Mark design the new system at Q. You can just charge up batteries with the generator until then. There are solar suppliers at Q, but you can also do an Amazon delivery to other locations. We picked stuff up in Blythe and Parker. It was you that had such a horrid experience with the package services in Quartzsite itself, wasn’t it? My Kevin, Kevin Means, Terry Brewer, and probably more are more than helpful.

ETA, Kevin recommends looking at Renogy and AMSolar websites. He says they have good information about recommended setups.

If you need a permanent address for delivery you can send it here.

Lake Havasu City is about 25 miles north of Parker.

Online equipment will be less expensive than buying at Q.

I have a solar system waiting in my Amazon checkout bin till I pull the trigger.

I could even transport the panels by laying them on the rear bed or overhead bed for the short trip to Q.
