Only in California . . . .Gas station Ban?

Ya, I remember when CA banned refineries and new oil drilling, then cried about the price of fuel. NIMBY hard at work.
IMO, this in Sacramento solves nothing at all. Sacramento has a countless number of EV charge stations as it is. Not where I want to see more.

Where they are really needed is out in the middle of nowhere--Even here in CA.

It seems, at least around my area, the drive is to consolidate people into cities and forget about less populated areas.
One nearby city is even discouraging home owners, instead concentrating on rental properties in the city, via huge rises in individual property taxes.

Electric vehicles are here to stay; and i imagine the same was said about gasoline vehicles 100 years ago.
I like watching the progress of new battery technology.

I ignore it all. Way too much vaporware.

Designing the battery is the easy part. Making it safe to charge at 300KW is the difficult part--which is often not mentioned in the vaporware.

IAC, I only want to hear about the EV batteries that are available. Then I can read about the design of those.

Gotta say though. I don’t think I would be investing in gas stations right now. There are literally less cars every day equipped with gas tanks. It’s literally a shrinking market.

When I was a kid there were competing gas stations on all 4 corners of just about every major intersection in So. Cal... Not anymore....

Remember when MTBE was banned in California around the turn of the millennium? People forget what horrendous effects refineries and fuel stations have on the environment and people's health.

Since I've been alive, having lived there myself and visited family who still lives there countless times over the years, California has always tried to be one step ahead, even if somewhat radical. They are they 7th largest economy in the world and things are just different when trying to prioritize things for that many people in such a HUGE state.

I don't see the problem. Other than the wording of the article.
I would expect some sort of requirement for fueling stations (especially new ones) to provide adequate charging stations, as well.
My friend with two of the five fuel station in our county is already looking into where he can install a couple of chargers, and what sort of chargers he will need to provide in the coming years. He is not waiting for the State or County officials to figure it out.

Codifying specific technology, just now, in a quickly adapting market may be a tad unwise, though.

It's pretty clear that NACS will be it, now that Tesla won the charging standard war. And there are adapters for the older CCS/CHAdeMo cars.

The CCS ChargePoint I tried out two days ago here in Auburn even had its own NACS connector on it.

My Blue Tesla charging up at the Auburn Target Store with CCS (without an adapter) on Bell Road:

ChargePoint's like above is what I would install if I had to make such a choice. One CCS cable and one NACS cable.

As CA remains the state MOST people in the USA choose to live in. Almost 40 million people prefer CA to any other state.

And it certainly is NOT because it is cheap to live here.

I'll challenge that statement. Almost 40 million people live in CA. Nowhere have I ever read that all of them prefer to live there. I did, all my life. Until they went completely off the rails and I had to bail out. And I personally know, just here in this local area of AR, about a dozen others that left for the same general reasons.

5th largest

And, California has the highest state exodus in the country, so much so Newsome and his cronies are wondering where they'll make up the lost tax revenues. Add to the list the amount of major corporations that are leaving and they're in a mess of their own doing. I believe CA was $68 billion in arrears before Covid hit but got bailed out with all of the billions thrown around in the name of Covid relief. Same thing here in NY where former governor Cuomo was begging at the feet of the Feds to pick up the $15B tab the state couldn't come up with. Visited once two years ago, and would never go back.

Post 6, ICE engines aren't going away anytime soon nor are gas stations. And, national stats show a rapid falloff in the sale of EV vehicles. In the Northeast mileage is terrible due to winter and the cold and in the Southwest an almost similar effect because of the strains of having to run the AC at a high rate continuously. Toyota just made a major announcement that they are shifting away from EVs to focus short-term on plug-in hybrids while they perfect the technology for hydrogen-powered vehicles. GM is offering $10-$15K discounts on their Cadillac EVs because they aren't selling. Tesla just lowered the price on the Model 3 and the other MFGs can't match the discounts. Finally, once the old man is out of the big house in D.C. you will see a vast reversal of his asinine policies pushing EVs to benefit his Chinese battery makers.

I was just thinking (danger!). If our Capital (Sacramento)decided such for the entire state of CA, I would strongly agree with it!

But only in Sacramento is totally useless. Countless places to charge in Sacramento as it is. Not so much for many other places of this state.

Somebody needs to explain that to the country that has the highest percentage of EVs, Norway! More than half the new car sales there are now EVs:

Gas & diesel fuels sales hasn't been a profitable business for a decade or more - the money is made in the convenience store, not at the pumps.
