I am probably in the camp of never/ever. It's those low probability high impact risks that I prefer to avoid. If you do damage the tow setup or worse, you are stuck with having to drive two vehicles or have to find and arrange a repair away from home. That doesn't sound easy. Just thinking...

I'm gonna frame that post to use the next time my wife tells me I am over-analyzing something.

On paper it is the same, and I was thinking 550 - 600 miles between fuel-ups, unless of course there is a big stretch like the one in the photo above.

That was on my list of things to ask the dealer on delivery - does the cross over make one-sided filling feasible. Either way, having the secondary fuel hose to piggy-back during the fill-up, as well as a DEF tank at the truck stops seems like the better more efficient way to go. Looks like TSD...

Thanks! I'll check it out and do a little advance scouting to see where the Love's are and what they look like. Google Earth is a great resource. I'm probably being over-the-top cautious with this in general, but I blame my early Eagle scout training for that. :)

It's a M2-106 chassis, spec'd at 309" wheelbase, but either way, that was one of my concerns with the box store overnight option, especially since my frame of reference is the Walmarts we have in Connecticut. I would guess those in the midwest would be a little more open, but without a dedicated...

So more trucks on the road, with longer hauls, and with shorter tolerances for mandatory stops = more demand for spots. Makes sense.

Thanks for the inside perspective - that is consistent with how Colorado is represented in the 50 state list: Colorado 303-757-9011 https://www.codot.gov/ Overnight parking is not allowed I made a note of this for our hopefully soon-to-be trip across the country!

That seems like the more common travel approach. A few questions on those other (non-campground) overnight options come to mind. Do the majority of the interstate rest areas allow for RV overnight parking? I found this website that lists the general rules by state - just wondering if it is...

I guess it depends on what the work is. There is a RV service outfit around 30 miles from us that I had some discussions with when we were considering bringing the RV home and having the tow hitch etc. installed here. He can handle general coach repairs. The nearest Renegade dealer is almost...

Got it. We planned to bring some supplies out with us, but I am sure we will forget something, and will schedule a few shopping trips near the dealer before we head home. I don't have a feel for how easy it is to get a spot on a days notice, or how easy it is to just extend a day in the event...

Understood - the dealer has been terrific with information and advice, and said we could stay as long as we like on his lot with hookups before we head home. I am confident he will give us all the time and support we need to make this purchase and trip home a success. That's the main reason I...

Most likely case is a June delivery, but duly noted on the April campsite availability. One more reason why waiting a couple of months even if delivery is available in April might be the better option. That's two votes now for avoiding Chicago. Is it a long stretch of congestion driving? I'll...
