I always try to pick a starting word with three vowels, then try a word with at least two vowels not in the first.
It often still seems to take me four guesses to get it right.

Yeah, I don't have any particular strategy for the first word. Just whatever comes to me at the time. Probably not a word like "zippy" for example, but just about anything else is a possibility.

I posted here way back when I intentionally tried to pick a crappy first word-- and ended up with something like 3 greens & 1 yellow. Go figure.

I actually don't see much point to that. I generally do use whatever letters show up in the first word, to make the second.
I do know a guy who has two words that he always uses for 1st two guesses.
I've not seen the practicality of that, yet.

I always go for a random starting word. My only "rule" is to use 2-3 different vowels.
