I did a test. Hard mode and regular mode are the same word each day.

If you clear all your stuff on the computer, you can play again that same day with that same word and looky here:

Doesn't make the game that fun after I figured that out.

Right, same word regardless of mode just different rules of play.

Yep, easy enough as you pointed out to "cheat". Simply clear cache, use another browser/device etc. There are also sites where you can enter "good" and "bad" letters you've chosen and get suggested solutions. Obviously NOBODY here would resort to such duplicity, as tempting as it might be at times.
