Is purchasing a 37' 9" Travel Trailer crazy for a Newbie?

Three years ago, we had never towed anything, nor had we ever camped (I'm 60) - but we also felt sure our retirement would have an RV in it.  Against the advice of nearly everyone, we jumped in with both feet and bought a three year old 40' Fifth Wheel, and a Ford F350 diesel dually (used, from...

    A mystical highway? Or mythical??

Last year, before we were the experienced campers that we are now  ;) -- we met a couple who told us about a highway that * I think * was in Louisiana, that was either only for, or mostly for - RVs.  Does that make sense to anyone?  It might also have been Arizona or New Mexico... LOL. I know...

Starting in Greeneville TN - ending up in Kingston Ontario

We have a family reunion planned in a resort in Pigeon Forge next May - and are going to be leaving our 5ver in Greeneville (with our dogs) for the weekend.  We'll go back to Greeneville to pick up the 5ver, and then plan to take about 3 weeks to head home.  Could go east, west or south first. ...

    What a MESS! Flood.

:-[. We've been full-timing in our 5ver for 3 months now, as our house is gutted and being renovated. By us.  But I digress.  Went out tonight and noticed the under-carriage was sagging.  A little tug released a torrent of water. Closer inspection showed that the insulation was soaked! Not...

Manitoba or Ontario has better National Parks for our 40f MH & Toad to visit?

The provincial parks in Ontario that can accommodate a 40' with toad are few and far between.  And those that can, usually have only 2-3 spots that will work.  We have found it to be quite a challenge - usually end up in private parks.

    MOSQUITOS!!! They're killing me

Here in Ontario, we're experiencing wet wet weather - the highest amount of rain in 75 years apparently, and the worst one for mosquitos.  Apparently, the fact that we had multiple feet of snow on the ground for the entire winter (as opposed to the more normal freeze-n-thaw), meant that...

    Starting point for camera settings

This is a great thread. Before hitting the road, I worked in IT for a camera retailer, and could buy at cost - so I have fairly high-end gear, but it's wasted on me.  I have a full-frame Canon (6D) and six L series lens - a 50mm, a wide-angle, a macro, the new 24-75 2.8, and the bad boy -...

What Are Your Small Kitchen Appliances of Choice?

We downsized from a 3000 s.ft. home with, as you, 25 years worth of kitchen stuff.  I'm also pretty well known for my cooking skills, so... had a LOT of stuff, including  a room in the basement with two extra stoves, and stuffed with appliances and serving dishes..  We're full-time in the RV now...

High Pointe Microwave & Convection oven? Really?

I cannot comment on the problem or the fix, but I can tell you that my Dometic micro/convection oven stopped working and it was covered by insurance.  We bought the trailer from a previous owner, and the insurance was transferable with the rig.  It was a $2000 replacement cost if I'd ordered...

Living in a 5th wheel full time in Canada!! in winter?

My husband spent about 50% of his time last winter in our RV, which is parked on our property in Brighton, Ontario.  The Ontario-Quebec-Maritimes winter was BRUTAL last year.  He skirted the 5ver with plywood, turned off the water, brought in the drinking water - and USED the toilet.  He...

    Doesn't Hurt to Ask

Last summer, after a power issue, our Micro/Convection oven stopped working and we spent the rest of the season without it.  Looked all winter for another that would fit AND was a dual micro/convection model.  The Dometic model that we needed as a replacement was almost $2,000. We have RV...

    Planning for February 2016

I am going to retire on January 11, 2016 - which is my 61st birthday.  My DH has already "retired" from the corporate world, but is working harder than ever on renovating our new-to-us home.  We sold our 3000 sq. ft. home, and are downsizing to about 1200 s.f.  I know it will feel palatial...

Our First Trip - Recap and Thank You

We stayed at the KOA.  It was pricey, as we've learned, but I would stay there again.  They had a shuttle that runs all day and night to take you into the downtown - that was a lifesaver for us, since the parking is very tight down there and we tow with a F450.

Iles de la Magdalen / Madeleine Island - FERRY QUESTION

We are planning a trip the Madeleine Islands this summer. Has anyone ever crossed to the Islands by Ferry?  We are still new to RVing - and I'm a little anxious about towing the 5th wheel (40 ft) on and off of a ferry.. Thoughts or opinions?
