    Cummins 8.3 Air Filter

When we bought our '04 C-7 with 9000 miles on it I thought the air filter would be OK since the indicator was slightly above mid range.   After spraying out the radiator with the pressure washer and observing sand on the ground I thought it might be cheap insurance/peace of mind to replace the...

So when are you going to unwrap that gift you speak of?

What size nuts hold down the rotor on a 454

Good for you Tom. The wires usually don't melt or burn, just break down and the high resistance causes all kind of problems.   Don't be afraid to break a sparkplug, worse case you'll break off the porcelin but the rest of the plug can still be removed.   You're probably sick of 454s for awhile...

    Carb Question

GM had a recall on the fast idle cam in mid to late 70's. I can't recall all the details but I do remember replacing dozens of cams while working for Chevy. It can be forced on backwards.   I'm sure the cam is available from GM.

    GFCI popping

My M/H would always trip 2 separate GFI outlets or circuits. I found the same to be true with torpedo heaters, stock tank heaters and engine block heaters.....any three prong relatively high wattage appliance. I just got used to avoiding those outlets when plugging in. On one occasion I plugged...

Help, My rig is all over the road!

Gary probably nailed it as usual. You didn't mention what chassis or length but if you have a long coach, short wheelbase with a tag it will feel like its wandering all over.    Try taking you left foot and imagining you are putting it on the center line.......leave it there and don't worry...

Having a "screw"y problem. (for techies)

Why not just drill the screw out? Center punch the head and start with a 1/16" (or so) drill and then slowly increase the size. Eventually what's left will disintegrate or you can punch out the remains and chase the threads with a tap.   Worse case you can drill out a larger hole and install...

What size nuts hold down the rotor on a 454

Unless it pings you don't need a higher octane fuel. The reg gas P-30/454 required min. 89 octane, lower at higher elevations. Octane or lack of will not cause the problem you describe.   I agree with your accelerator pump diagnosis based on your latest info.   The 'rich' mixture you describe...

    Towing a Jeep

We towed our Wrangler 4 down. We had no desire to buy a tow dolly, load/unload and store it at camp. Tow bars are much easier.

What size nuts hold down the rotor on a 454

If you have a check engine light or service engine soon light you have an O2 sensor. I doubt you do unless that was a CA emmision control vehicle as opposed to Fed. E.C. Is that an unleaded fuel engine?   P-30s were regular gas/ no Cat until 85/86 or so. You can check your year if you can...

    Alternator wiring

Strange..... So you're saying if you leave term. 2 heated up it quits charging? (Term 2 or B is on the left if you face the pulley from the rad end). On the back of the alternator behind the regulator you will see a half circle about 1/4" size. If the alternator doesn't charge you can...

    81 fleetwood southwind running hot

Assuming its a P-30 454....it should have had a 6 blade fan from the factory with a clutch. The fan clutch should engage when it gets hot, if not either the clutch is bad or the rad is plugged and unable to heat the clutch.   Jiggs had a good idea with the infrared heat sensor.   If you've...

    Oil Pan Removal

Did you unbolt the flex plate from the converter? Watch the distributor doesnt hit the end of the doghouse and break the cap.   Edit: Can you separate the converter from the flex plate, unbolt the trans without removing it and gain enough clearance to remove the flex plate from the crank...

    loss of oil pressure

Baed on your mileage I'm thinking someone installed the pump 'dry' and damaged it. Other options are the pick-up tube/screen was not installed properly in the pump or the pump and or screen was never replaced.   If the pump wasn't driving the distributor would also fail and timing would be way...

What size nuts hold down the rotor on a 454

GM was not using metric or Torx in '84 (at least not on the P-30). Has someone modified it? What makes you think the module is bad??   GM rotors have always been attached with 2 phillips screws (either #8 or #10, bad memory here). When you get the rotor removed you will notice two small...
