    Denver Co Winter Camping

I have no knowledge of camping in this area of Colorado during the winter since I live here. You should plan on dealing with some really cold temperatures though. The last week of December and first week of January are typically our coldest time of the year. -15 is not uncommon at night.

    What determines tow capacity?

One thing to know is that Ford didn't build the 6.0, nor did it build the 7.3 or 6.4, engine. Those were built by NaviStar I believe. Granted Ford put it's name on the truck so it had to take some responsibility, but in that case I feel the heat really should have been placed at the engine...

    Removing bug stains?

Dyer sheets. Give them a soak in some water and wash the bugs off. Works great.

    Embarassed...please help :(

I too would recommend a used Ford Excursion with the diesel. I had a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 7.3L Powerstroke. I pulled a '30 TT that weighed in around 7,000 and the truck pulled and stopped the trailer fine. I should have added sway control though because every time a semi would pass me I...

    GM 6.0 gas V8 vs Duramax 6.6

One thing that's been hinted at, but I don't believe clearly spoken about here is what's in your future. Are you absolutely positive that this will be your last RV? If not, try to think about what you might be looking at for in the future. If it's anything bigger, buying a larger truck now will...

Towing capacity for 5th wheel with 2008 Dodge HD 2500 Big Horn 6.7L Diesel

Not sure if that comment was directed at me, but since I'm the one who mentioned adding air bags and adjustable shocks to deal with a couple of hundred pounds over my 9k limit I'll respond. From a pure letter of the law point of view I understand that I'm over the limit. From a rational point of...

Towing capacity for 5th wheel with 2008 Dodge HD 2500 Big Horn 6.7L Diesel

I suspect you're way, way over the limits for your truck. I've got a 2006 Dodge 2500 and pull a Keystone Challenger 32RKS which has a GVWR of 13,500lbs which I've weighed at the scale at 12,000lbs (my wife and I pack lite). I'm over the trucks GVWR by a couple of hundred pounds. Now, I've looked...

Please Help Decipher the Numbers ----

That 12,000lbs weight sounds like the max bumper pull. Take the GCWR of 22k and subtract the 12k gives you 10k for the truck which is probably close the to the trucks GVWR.

El Paso to Denver. Would you avoid this route right now?

I've driven from Albuquerque to Denver (family in S. Cal) during the winter many times. It's a crap shoot. Last year we had to stop in Las Vegas, New Mexico because of weather. The other times the road was clear. The worst weather seems to be from Santa Fe to Raton, NM and then again just north...

Can my truck safely pull my 5er?

I've got a Dodge 2500 and he'll not have any trouble with the RAWR. The same axle is used in the 2500 as the 3500 dually. He'll run out of load capacity on his tires long before the RAWR is exceeded.

Going through A nightmare with our new Keystone Cougar 5th wheel

+1 We had some initial trouble which I wasn't happy with. I mean when you pay 30 large for a trailer that's brand new you kind of expect things to work. Now that our plumbing issues have been fixed we've enjoyed the heck out of the trailer. I would look at Keystone again. The difference this...

Going through A nightmare with our new Keystone Cougar 5th wheel

That's true of all TT's and not a problem.

Going through A nightmare with our new Keystone Cougar 5th wheel

Sorry to hear about your troubles. My wife and I bought a Keystone Challenger this year and while we did have a few problems that caused me some grief our dealer took care of everything. It's not right, but I can understand why RV companies are trying to sweep problems under the rug. They are...

    tow vehicle pros and cons?

I too would look at older Ford F250's with the 7.3L diesel. I've had two Dodges, one old 12V and a newer 2006 24V. I also had a Ford Excursion with the 7.3L. I towed the same travel trailer with all three trucks. The first Dodge did have some trouble on mountain grades pulling my '29 TT. That...

    Rear Kitchen in 5er

We've got a Keystone Challenger 32RKS which has the rear kitchen. Besides the vibration issue that folks have already mentioned there's one other downside to having a rear kitchen. If you have someone sleeping on the fold out couch it's difficult to get from the bedroom in the morning to the...
